-Changing Islam from Within: Turkish Scholars Discuss Said Nursi. In Turkey, a Muslim reformer named Said Nursi had a major influence on Islam in Turkey and elsewhere in the early 20th century. What is the legacy of Said Nursi on modern Islam? Come and hear Turkish scholars Faris Kaya from The Istanbul Foundation for Science and Culture; Prof. Said Ozervarli of Yildiz Technical University in Istanbul; as well as Zeyneb Salim, a PhD candidate in the department of theology at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.; and Prof. Thomas Michel, S.J., who studied Arabic in Lebanon and Egypt and received his PhD in Arabic and Islamic Studies from the University of Chicago.
