Nursi Conferences in Southeast Asia 2009-08-10 06:52:18 
In recent days, international symposiums and conferences about the Risale-i Nur Collection and Bediuzzaman are held in Southeast Asian countries such as Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia.
20-21 July 2009 PHILIPPINES SYMPOSIUM
Many conferences took place in Philippines from 2005. The international symposium called “The Role of Justice in Building a Better World” took place on 20-21 July 2009 in Cagayan De Oro, South Philippines, one of the important points of Mindanao region. It is organized by the Institute of Risale-i Nur and attracted attention as this area is known as a place of tension.
Approximately four hundred academicians from Turkey, United States, Italy, Australia South Africa, Malaysia and Indonesia attended this symposium.
As it is known that the Mindanao region in the southern part of Philippines faced conflict between militia and army force. The Muslim public suffered from this conflict. For this reason, this meeting attracted attention of United Nations, civil society organizations and the Muslim tribe leaders.
The academicians and participants tried to find solutions from the
Risale-i Nur Collection to the problems of stricken regions. All of the
participants, especially peace volunteers and the representative of
United Nations, Prof. Dr. Michael Lenaghan, mentioned the contribution
of the Risale-i Nur to the solutions of the problems of this region.
The participants from Philippines declared in their presentations that it is vitally important to spread the faith based approach of the Risale-i Nur in order to live in harmony and peace in this multi-cultural and problematic place.
Opening Ceremony is given by Mayor of Cagayan De Oro and continued for two days. The names mentioned below attended the program and gave presentations.

23-24 July 2009 Jakarta Conferences
Many scholars from Indonesia and fellow countries presented papers in the symposium called “Social Harmony and Peace: Said Nursi On Muslims Revivalism, Education And World Peace.” In addition to Indonesia, scholars from Turkey, United States, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, South Africa, and Thailand attended the symposium.

In the capital of Indonesia, Jakarta, the Risale-i Nur conferences took
place in two different universities. The first conference took place
on 23th of July 2009, in University of Jakarta of Muhammediye, one of
the institutes of Muhammediye Education Group with 40.000 high schools
and 107 colleges. The second day of the conference continued in the
biggest Islamic University called University of Jakarta of Muhammediye.
The opening remark is given by Prof. Dr. M. Masyitoh, the rector of
University of Muhammediye. In his talk, he mentioned that they were
late to understand the ideas and opinions of Said Nursi, but from now
on, they will do their best to teach the views of Said Nursi to their
students and professors and to practice these views and ideas in their
lives.
Then, the papers were presented the whole day with the question- answer part.

Bangka Island Symposium
The Symposium called “The Education of the Youth According to Said Nursi and Social Agreement” took place on 26th of July, under the support of governor of Bangka Island province, in Bangka Island Islamic Institute.
Bangka Island, in which there are no Turks settled down, has a population of one million, which is very close to Sumatra islands, destroyed by tsunami. The conference that took place in Bangka Island is followed by 800 participants, with 20 dollars fee. The salary of a professor is 300 dollars. One can clearly understand the interest of the residents of Bangka Island.

THE GENERAL OVERVIEW OF INDONESIA SYMPOSIUMS
In Indonesia Symposiums, especially the participants from Vietnam, Cambodia, Mindanao, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand mentioned in their papers that it is vitally important to spread the faith based approach of the Risale-i Nur in order to live in harmony and peace in the multi-cultural and problematic places.
Moreover, the English, Arabic and local languages of the Risale-i Nur Collection are distributed to the readers who are interested in them. Especially in the Indonesia conferences, the autobiography of Said Nursi, published by SUNY Press and Mesnevi-i Nuriye in Indonesia language are created interest.
With this conference, the total number of conferences in Indonesia became 16. Up until now, symposiums are held in Jakarta, Makasar, Surabaya, Cogca, Medan, Lampung, Palembang, Pakenbaru ve Bangka islands.
